A delegation of the Nigerian Community in Douala led by its Union president last Tuesday March 16, 2010 paid a courtesy visit to Union Bank of Cameroon. The delegation was received at the conference hall of the bank by the General Manager in the company of some of his senior collaborators. After expressing his gratitude to the president of the Union for leading the group to UBC, the GM briefly commended the brotherly relations between Nigeria and Cameroon, which he believed should be strengthened.
He then called on the visitors to work to build a stronger Cameroon, adding that UBC is willing to collaborate with them as a group and as individuals for mutually beneficial results. The PRO, President, Vice-President and Secretary General of the Nigerian Community on their part expressed deep appreciation to the GM for giving them the opportunity to be at Union Bank of Cameroon, and hoped that such collaboration would serve as example for others to emulate. “We have never felt better anywhere else than here,” the Vice-President said, before announcing their resolve to work for the development of both Cameroon and Nigeria. The Union’s Secretary General added that with a Nigerian population of over 3 million in Cameroon, he believed for any business to succeed, there was need to take into consideration this population and was glad UBC was doing just that.
Our guests also used this maiden come-together to discuss some of the problems they faced with the banking system in Cameroon. One speaker expressed concerns about banks folding up, leaving customers desperate, and urged UBC to work to win the confidence of the Nigerian people in Cameroon. Reacting to this, the GM described the phenomenon as a thing of the past and assured them of the stability and sustainability of UBC. The GM and his collaborators also answered questions relating to money transfer to and from Nigeria, account opening, banking products, shareholding, help to SMEs, use of the flash card, among others. To round off, the Vice President of the Union reiterated their support to UBC and their commitment to work to ensure the betterment of the populations of Cameroon and Nigeria. He promised they would be true ambassadors of the bank. The General Manager of UBC told the august guests it was a great day to have them around and expressed the bank’s determination to continue to strengthen the bonds of friendship and partnership with the Nigerian Community in Cameroon.
